Arguably, the New York Yankees had the best rotation in the Majors in 2026.

Their starters, led by a top four of Cam Schlittler, Max Fried, Gerrit Cole, and Carlos Rodon, posted the league's best 3.30 ERA.

Behind those guys are reliable arms like Will Warren, Ryan Weathers, and prospect Elmer Rodriguez. It remains to be seen if the Yankees will use Carlos Lagrange in a starter's role or as a reliever.

Clearly, New York has a plethora of arms. Still, when the best pitcher in the sport becomes a free agent, and you are the Yankees, there should be at least some interest, right?

"Well, sometimes the best thing to do with a strength is lean into it. And if the Yankees could line up [Tarik] Skubal with Cam Schlittler, Max Fried, Gerrit Cole, and Carlos Rodón, that's when we could begin having the "Best Rotation Ever?" discussion," Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer wrote.

Skubal, a two-time Cy Young Award winner, would create a two-headed monster with Schlittler if he took his talents to the Bronx.

He should command the largest contract ever for a starter. Yes, even higher than Yoshinobu Yamamoto's 12-year, $325 million deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

"Of course, this doesn't mean the Yankees can't afford Skubal. Their roster already includes three players on contracts originally worth at least $300 million. And if [Hal] Steinbrenner really wants to get serious about winning championship No. 28, a fourth should be in order," Rymer added.

To this point, there's no strong indication that the Yankees will seriously target Skubal this offseason.

However, their rotation would be nearly unbeatable on paper in a postseason series with the soon-to-be 30-year-old.
