The New York Yankees could use some help in the starting rotation if they want to ensure a deep postseason run. They could contact the Milwaukee Brewers about Freddy Peralta.
The Brewers are currently in postseason position, and two games out of the division lead, entering play on Monday. Trading Peralta would be a shock, but it would fall in line with how the team has operated in the past. It would not be the first time the Brewers traded a star pitcher with another year of control.
The Brewers traded Corbin Burnes, Devin Williams and Josh Hader when they had a year left of control, to try an maximize value. Peralta has an $8 million club option for next season, and CBS Sports' R.J. Anderson tabbed the Yankees as a landing spot for him.
"Given the expected state of the market, Peralta could be the top available starter, creating the possibility that the Brewers could leverage other clubs to net an impressive return," wrote Anderson. "I don't think a trade is a given, and truth told I'd prefer the Brewers keep Peralta and try to win a title. If you squint, though, you can see the stars coming into alignment on this one."
The Brewers may have too many starters soon. Brandon Woodruff is expected to return next week, Nestor Cortes is working his way back and Logan Henderson is in Triple-A after some great starts for the Brewers this year. Meanwhile, the Yankees lost Gerrit Cole before the season, and Luis Gil is not expected back until August.

Max Fried, Carlos Rodón and Ryan Yarbrough have been good in the rotation. However, adding an arm like Peralta could help the Yankees make a deep run. Peralta is a former All-Star and has a 2.90 ERA this season.
