The New York Yankees, and the rest of the world, have flipped their calendars to May. After the first month of the season, there is no bigger question for this team than when they are getting their rotation back to full strength.
That is hard to believe considering how well their rotation has been this season. Max Fried and Cam Schlittler have been outstanding, and it seems like neither are showing any kind of slowing down.
As we enter May, there is a chance that both Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodón are going to be back this month. Each have starts this week at the Double-A level, with the Somerset Patriots.
Of course the Yankees are going to be perfectly fine without them, but eventually, they are going to want their two star pitchers back. As this summer progresses, the competition will start to heat up as fast as the weather will, and this franchise has to stay ahead of the curve.
As it stands, the Bronx Bombers are in first place in the American League East with a 20-11 record. They sit ahead of the Tampa Bay Rays by a game and a half, and they have a three-game series against the sub .500 Baltimore Orioles starting on Friday night.
Both Cole and Rodón will be back in pinstripes soon enough, and it could happen before the calendar flips again to June. This month can be a breakaway from the rest of the pack in the AL East, and it could set up an easier summer.
