The New York Yankees are turning to one of their top prospects for tonight's game against the Houston Astros.
Elmer Rodriguez, a right-hander and New York's No. 3 prospect on MLB Pipeline, will make his fifth start of the season in the middle game of a three-game set.
To make space on the active roster, the Yankees had to option someone to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
According to the New York Post's Joel Sherman, they've decided to send down a right-handed reliever who recently joined the organization.
"Source: To make room for Elmer Rodriguez on the roster to start tonight, the Yankees are optioning Bradley Hanner to AAA," Sherman wrote on X.
Hanner signed a minor league deal with the Yankees during the offseason. The 27-year-old had his contract selected from Triple-A on Aug. 11.
Since then, he's made three appearances out of the bullpen, allowing six hits and two home runs with six strikeouts in four innings.

Manager Aaron Boone has utilized Hanner as an innings-eater in the rookie's outings. He threw 25 pitches on Tuesday against the Astros, so it's possible he would have been unavailable the next few days.
With Ryan Weathers on the IL with what's been diagnosed as a left forearm flexor strain, the Yankees may opt to leave Rodriguez in the rotation for the time being.
Max Fried, on the IL with a bone bruise in his throwing elbow, is a potential option for this weekend's pivotal four-game series against the Boston Red Sox, per Boone.
