WWE legend William Regal has shared a heartbreaking update on social media. Regal has shared the level of pain he has endured over the years with his broken neck and how it has affected his life.
In a post uploaded on his X account, the wrestling legend uploaded a X-Ray of his broken neck with multiple screws and plates fixed on his neck. In a long post, he mentioned how the injury has affected his life over the past two decades, and how young wrestlers should not take this injury lightly.
He wrote that he broke his neck twice in his career--once in 1993 and the other time in 1997, but somehow managed to still wrestle by learning the tricks on how to take the bumps safely. However, he mentioned that wrestlers of today's generation don't learn the skill, and they just copy, thereby injuring themselves.
"I kept going somehow but knew all the tricks that again people don’t learn now and watch film and just copy. After Misawa San passed from his neck problems I thought it would stop this nonsense but it’s got worse and whenever I talk to people about them doing it it’s “well it doesn’t hurt….” Believe me it will," he wrote.Regal also mentioned the name of former WWE superstar, Bryan Danielson (Daniel Bryan), and how he has seen him struggling with the broken neck injury every day. For the unversed, Bryan also broke his neck while he was part of WWE, and it was a big reason why he was forced to take in-ring retirement in WWE. Regal and Bryan were also part of AEW in 2022, and they were together in backstage office roles at the Jacksonville-based promotion.
"I have people close to me now, Bryan being one, who is suffering daily like myself from his neck. It’s a daily misery and sleep and every other aspect of your life is more than hard," he wrote. He warned the young wrestlers not to risk their careers and lives by taking the bumps on their heads because the money and fame that come along are not worth the pain that it causes.
The Hall of Famer sternly issued a warning to the wrestlers who are doing it to stop because after they retire from wrestling, "broken necks" would be hard to deal with.
"I’m 57 and become less relevant every day but fame has never been my thing so most of you doing this STUPID stuff are not going to listen to me but hopefully a few do. Stop it now if you want a decent quality of life after Wrestling because that part of your life will be over before you know it and wrestling done right is hard enough but broken necks or death are not something you should think is tough or cool. It’s idiotic thinking," he wrote.Regal was part of WCW in the early nineties before joining the WWE in 1998. He broke his neck in 1993 while wrestling Ricky Steamboat, while taking a German Suplex. He didn't realize how serious the injury was and continued wrestling. He took retirement from in-ring competition in 1993.
William Regal was recently replaced in the backstage office role in WWE
Recently, there were reports that William Regal was replaced in a backstage office role in WWE. He was the Vice President of Global Talent Development in WWE and played a key role in recruiting talent for NXT and WWE.
However, according to recent reports, the WCW legend was recently replaced by Matt Bloom. Ibou of Self Made Pro shared this update, saying that Bloom has been tasked to keep an eye on the talent from Japan, and that recent picks by William Regal might not have impressed many in WWE.
Regal last made his on-screen appearance during an episode of Monday Night RAW before Survivor Series: WarGames. He was called out by CM Punk, and then he declared the announcement of the WarGames match in his trademark style.
