The Undisputed WWE Championship was defended in the opening match at Saturday Night's Main Event as Cody Rhodes went one-on-one against Drew McIntyre. During the closing moments of the match, the Championship belt broke a little after Cody hit Drew with a DDT on it.

A stipulation was added to the Undisputed WWE title match during the contract signing on this week's episode of SmackDown. Drew demanded that Cody should lose the Championship if he gets disqualified or counted out in the match. Cody agreed to his demands which led to the stipulation being added.

During their bout at Saturday Night's Main Event, Drew actually brought in the title to provoke Cody into getting himself disqualified. However, the American Nightmare refused to use the Undisputed WWE Championship and handed it back to the referee.

In the closing moments of the match, the referee got knocked out while Cody was trying to hit a Cross Rhodes on Drew near the turnbuckle. Seeing this, Drew brought in the Championship belt to use it on Cody. However, Cody countered and hit him with a DDT on the belt followed by a Cross Rhodes to retain the title.

After the match while Cody was celebrating, the corner of the sideplates on the title seemed to have broken. It might have been due to the impact from the DDT Cody hit Drew with on the Undisputed WWE Championship. It'll be interesting to see what's next for the title going forward with Cody's successful defense.
