World Series Game 7 pitching matchup is set — Shohei Ohtani faces Max Scherzer

Game 7 of the World Series will see the best player on the planet use his two-way skills.

Hours after The Post’s Joel Sherman reported the Dodgers planned to make Shohei Ohtani their starting pitcher for the final game of the year, Los Angeles made it official.

He’ll be going toe-to-toe against 41-year-old Max Scherzer, the three-time Cy Young Award winner and future Hall of Famer.

Ohtani pitched in Game 4 and is going on three days’ rest, but MLB’s rules make it so that starting him as a pitcher makes more sense than using him out of the bullpen.

If Ohtani, who will undoubtedly also start the game as the Dodgers’ designated hitter, came in relief and did not finish the game, Los Angeles would lose its DH.

However, if he starts the game, no matter the inning total, the Dodgers will keep their DH, meaning he’d still be able to hit.

Ohtani took the loss in his last start against the Blue Jays, allowing four runs on six hits in a loss.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. jumped all over him with a two-run homer in the third inning to give Toronto the lead for good, the first long ball Ohtani had allowed in the 2025 postseason.

At the plate, Ohtani has a .318 average with a 1.364 OPS in the World Series, with most of that damage coming in the 18-inning game three in which he went 4-for-4 and reached base an eye-popping nine times.

Since then, he’s 1-for-10 after he ripped a double in Game 6’s thrilling win.

The Blue Jays will counter with Scherzer, who allowed three runs in that long game Game 3.

In the ALCS, he bulldogged his way to a win in Game 4 against the Mariners when, in a fired-up ” Mad Max” moment, he fought to stay in the game in the fifth inning.

He ended up staying in for 5 2/3 innings to earn the victory.

Scherzer started the last World Series Game 7 in 2019 as a member of the Nationals. He tossed five innings and allowed two runs to help the franchise win its first World Series.
