A woman was struck down by a city Department of Transportation dump truck as she crossed a Queens street Tuesday morning, officials said.
The unidentified victim – believed to be in her 30s – was walking at the intersection of Metropolitan Avenue and Lefferts Boulevard in Kew Gardens just before 9 a.m. when the yellow DOT vehicle hit her, according to the NYPD and photos from the scene.
She died at the scene, police said.

The cause of the crash is being probed, authorities said.
“We are deeply saddened by this tragic crash, and our hearts are with the victim’s loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” a DOT spokesperson said in a statement.

DOT added that it is “committed” to improving the safety of its fleet and “reducing” the risk of serious crashes on city streets.
Crashes involving city agency vehicles have dropped more than 20% since the launch of the Vision Zero Fleet Safety Plan in 2017, DOT said, while crediting the program for “significant safety upgrades.”
