Claims about the WNBA 3-point contest have caused quite the stir.
After Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu slammed the “lies” about her declining to participate in the event, later clarifying she was never invited, Lynx star Kayla McBride also set the record straight after a since-deleted B/R W Sports Instagram post alleged that Ionescu, McBride and Caitlin Clark all turned down invitations.
“Also for those that are SO concerned. i received a half ass invite to the 3 pt contest, thru my agent, in a text randomly 48 hours ago..not officially,” McBride, 34, wrote on her Instagram Story on Wednesday evening. “Sooo posting things like i’m afraid of shooting smoke is weird and if you didn’t hear it from me prob shouldn’t believe it … we should focus on the great shooters in it already!!! because there’s some killas in there. good luck to all those participating and when yall start doing shooting contests coming off pin downs hit me.”

Ionescu won two of the last three 3-point contests and is the reigning champion.
The six participants for Friday’s 3-point contest in Chicago are the Fire’s Bridget Carleton, Wings’ Azzi Fudd, Storm’s Natisha Hiedeman, Dream’s Rhyne Howard, Tempo’s Marina Mabrey and Walkyries’ Janelle Salaun.
McBride is averaging 18.2 points per game this season, which ties her career high from 2018.

The 2026 WNBA All-Star Game will be played Saturday night.
