WNBA rebounding records: How Angel Reese made history twice in one game

Angel Reese is in the middle of a career year with the Atlanta Dream, and she made two kinds of history when the Dream beat the Los Angeles Sparks on Monday night.

Reese totaled 26 rebounds in Los Angeles, a number that has never been reached in WNBA history. In the process, she also passed A'ja Wilson's record for most rebounds in a single season, giving Reese two of the WNBA's coveted rebounding records.

The third-year player is already known for her special ability to collect rebounds, so it's not much of a surprise that she's the one who produced such a historic performance. Before long, Reese is likely to break more rebounding records over the course of her career.

Most WNBA rebounds in one game

Reese's 26 rebounds on Monday night broke a record that Chamique Holdsclaw had held for over 23 years. Holdsclaw secured 24 rebounds in May, 2003, setting the single-game rebounds record that was threatened, but never reached until Reese passed it against the Sparks.

Previously, Reese's single-game career high for rebounds was 22, which she set in 2024 as a member of the Chicago Sky and put her in a tie with five other players for fifth on the list. Then, Reese made history by securing four more rebounds for the record of 26.

Most WNBA rebounds in one season

Reese now holds the record for most rebounds in a single season, surpassing A'ja Wilson's previous record of 451 from two seasons ago. Had it not been for Wilson, Reese would have set this record in 2024 instead, but she now holds two spots in the top three, and both she and Wilson are the only players to produce at least 405 rebounds in a single season, doing so twice each.

The Dream have six games left in the regular season, so Reese can run up the record and likely become the first WNBA player ever to secure 500 rebounds in a single season. While Reese has been in the league for just three seasons, her rebound totals in each of those three seasons sit in the top 11 all time.

Most WNBA rebounds all time

WNBA legend Tina Charles is the league's all-time rebounding leader, having produced 4,262 rebounds in her career. Only Charles and Sylvia Fowles can say they produced 4,000 rebounds in their careers, as no other player has even reached the 3,600 mark.

Reese's penchant for rebounds means she has a strong chance to become the league's all-time rebounding leader by the time her career ends. Reese already set the record for rebounds per game in a single season when she averaged 13.12 rebounds in 2024, and her 12.57 in 2025 and 12.38 so far in 2026 are second and third on that list. No player in WNBA history has ever averaged 12 rebounds per game, but Reese has done so three times.

Currently, Reese averages 12.68 rebounds per game for her career, the most all time, clearing Fowles in second place by almost three rebounds.

How many Angel Reese rebounds are 'Mebounds'?

While Reese has gone viral for frequently grabbing rebounds on her own missed shots, that number still makes up just a small portion of her overall total. On Monday night, 18 of Reese's rebounds came on the defensive end, and she didn't grab an offensive rebound off one of her own missed shots at any point in the game.
