Half a decade is how long the Washington Wizards have been tanking and last qualified for the postseason. The franchise has also not won a playoff series since 2017. Now, they have a lot of great cards in their hands. The franchise has both amazing veterans in Trae Young and Anthony Davis. Winning the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft Lottery also meant that they get a star of the future.
While some fans are happy, others felt a bit underwhelmed.
Wizards fans drop mixed reactions after winning 2026 NBA Draft No. 1 pick
"Man, imagine being the #1 pick in the 2026 Draft and the team that selects you is the Wizards I'd be so bummed," was just one of the odd reactions after the lottery.
Another fan was elated after seeing them come out with the top pick, "I’m so happy for yall, best outcome in the draft in so long wizards up fr."
"The Washington Wizards didn’t deserve the first pick in the NBA draft, but here we are," some were also filled with a lot of hatred.
One Wizards fan also highlighted how the DMV area is experiencing a lot of sports luck, "What a time to be a DC Sports fan: Wizards have No. 1 pick in 2026 NBA Draft, Commanders host the 2027 NFL Draft, Spirit has highest-paid player in the NWSL, Defenders (5-2) tied at No. 1 spot in UFL, Mystics just drafted 6 rookies in WNBA Draft."
Fans usually have big reactions after seeing their favorite team go from a dwindling franchise to one that can compete in the postseason again. Wizards fans may be overreacting too early. It is true that they are going to get one of either AJ Dybantsa, Darius Acuff, Cameron Boozer, or Caleb Wilson but that is just one small factor in getting the Larry O'Brien trophy. They still have to worry about the chemistry between Trae Young and Anthony Davis while developing young talents like Alex Sarr.
However, it is not bad at all to be happy. After all, the Wizards just won the NBA Draft No. 1 pick for the first time since 2010. They got John Wall out of that and he led the team for years.
