Wings broadcaster tells Caitlin Clark's critics to 'get off her case' on rough shooting night

Caitlin Clark faces intense scrutiny this season, mostly from critics who expect higher production. During a recent rough stretch, her shooting percentages dropped to 25%, 14.3%, 35.3%, and 28.6% over four consecutive games.

Even though she is considered the Indiana Fever's phenom, this slump led to endless online speculation that opposing teams had likely figured her out. She currently averages 4.5 turnovers per game and shoots 32.4% from three-point range.

Due to such struggles, she dropped from No. 4 to outside the top 10 in Bleacher Report’s player rankings, while critics labeled her a defensive liability who had lost her confidence.

She answered that criticism on Tuesday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Clark recorded 21 points and 14 assists to lead the Fever to a 113–91 blowout win over the Toronto Tempo, marking the Fever’s fourth consecutive victory.

Clark became the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 250 points and 100 assists in a single season, reaching the milestone in 13 games.|

The following night, during the Dallas Wings' broadcast of their away game against the Golden State Valkyries, veteran play-by-play announcer Ron Thulin defended Clark on air.

Referencing her 14 assists from the previous night, Thulin told viewers, "Caitlin Clark, all the boo-birds saying she's not doing very well this year, how about a season-high 14 assists? Get off her case, folks!" He immediately added, "That's an editorial comment."

Fever head coach Stephanie White credited Clark’s playmaking after the Toronto win, noting her improved pace and ability to create numbers advantages out of the ball screen.

Indiana now takes its four-game winning streak into a home game against the 9–4 Atlanta Dream tonight at 7:30 p.m. ET on Prime Video. Fever won their first matchup against Atlanta earlier this month, where Clark scored 17 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds
