If you finished watching War Machine—the new Alan Ritchson action movie that released on Netflix on Friday—then you know that the movie leaves the door wide open for a War Machine 2 movie. We won’t spoil it here, but let’s just say that Ritchson’s robot-fighting days are far from over.

Written and directed by Patrick Hughes (best known for The Hitman’s Bodyguard and its sequel), War Machine stars Ritchson as a grieving army veteran, enrolls in a brutal boot camp to become an “Army Ranger,” a special ops group of the U.S. military that deals with classified incidents. Like, for example, an alien spaceship from another planet. In addition to Ritchson, the War Machine cast includes Dennis Quaid, Stephan James, Jai Courtney, Esai Morales, Keiynan Lonsdale, Jarryd Goundrey and Daniel Webber.

War Machine doesn’t end on a cliffhanger, but the War Machine ending does suggest that a War Machine sequel—or, possibly, sequels—could happen. Read on to find out what we know about a War Machine 2 movie.

Will there be a War Machine 2026 sequel movie?

Right now, there is no official news on whether a War Machine sequel is happening. That said, in a recent interview with Decider, War Machine writer and director Patrick Hughes said he’s definitely interested in making another War Machine movie—or movies, plural—”if that opportunity came up.”

“I know exactly where I want to take it, and what that broader story is,” Hughes told Decider. “We absolutely love the character of 81. For me, I wanted to tell a film that started with the micro, and ended with the macro. And I thought that was a really unique take on the genre that we were working in. Let’s see what happens.”

Hughes clarified, in a different interview with Screen Rant, that he wrote War Machine as a “standalone story” but that he had “tons” of ideas for 81’s character, if he got the chance to make sequel movies. “War Machines is going to be sick. The whole thing, we got a whole thing,” Hughes said. “If I ever got the opportunity to take it further, I know exactly where it’s going, and I’ve sketched it out.”

In the interview with Decider, star Alan Ritchson chimed in with a joke pitch for War Machine 2: “81 goes to Paris, and he stays at Le Bristol, and he gets that really lovely chicken truffle soup that they have.”

Go ahead Alan, shoot your shot. You deserve a vacation after pulling off those stunts!
