Master Chief John-117 has led his team of Marines all the way to Netflix this October.

Halo, a video game-turned-series adaptation of the popular Microsoft Xbox franchise, had a two-season run on Paramount+ before the streaming service pulled the plug on the series in July of 2024. After being cancelled, the show’s producers were apparently looking to move the series to another outlet for a third season, a source said, according to Variety.

A previous statement from Halo Studios, a video game developer (formerly known as 343 Industries), to THR reads, “We deeply appreciate the millions of fans who propelled the Halo series to be a global success, and we remain committed to broadening the Halo universe in different ways in the future. We are grateful to Amblin and Paramount for their partnership in bringing our expansive sci-fi universe to viewers around the world.”

Is Netflix the streaming service that producers alluded to? Can we finally expect a third season? What’s the future of Halo? Keep scrolling to find out.

The Rundown on Halo Season 3

The week of its Netflix debut on October 1st, the military sci-fi drama rose up to the streaming platform’s Top 10 shows list. However, Halo’s ranking was short-lived, only lasting for one week. When you mix the show’s brief popularity stint with its high-production cost (around $10 million per episode), it’s hard to believe that Netflix will take this project on. Not to mention, Halo stans had fairly mixed reviews on the series, arguing that it strayed too far away from the video game of the same name.

While we don’t know anything for sure, our prediction is that we don’t think we will see a Season 3 of Halo any time soon. On an official note, there hasn’t been any word of another season being renewed from the Halo team, either.

Where Can I Watch Previous Seasons of Halo?

If you’re a huge Halo fan, or just getting on board with the series, you can still rewatch the previous 17 episodes, available to stream on Netflix and Paramount+. So, if you’re down to see 2 seasons of dystopian sci-fi warfare between Master Chief and his Spartans, against the cunning alien covenant, you know where to find them.

Netflix offers three subscription plans to fit your streaming needs. The plans start at $7.99/month for standard with ads and go up to $24.99/month for unlimited ad-free streaming in up to 4K UHD quality.

Paramount+ offers two subscription plans. The ad-supported Essential plan costs $7.99/month, while the ad-free Premium plan (which comes with Showtime and live CBS) costs $12.99/month. New subscribers can take advantage of a seven-day free trial.
