Will Sean Mannion call plays for the Eagles over Nick Sirianni?

The wait is over in the City of Brotherly Love. The Philadelphia Eagles have found their Kevin Patullo replacement in Sean Mannion.

As an ex-quarterback, Mannion comes to the table with a fresh perspective. It could be an exciting moment for the Eagles, but fans needed to hear one thing to be fully on board with the hire.

Will Sean Mannion Call Plays?

According to The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Jeff McLane, Mannion is joining the Eagles with intentions of becoming the play-caller right out of the gate. The Eagles insider confirmed with the head coach, Nick Sirianni.

At this stage, it’s clear the Eagles have found plenty of success with Sirianni running the team. But when it comes to calling the shots on offense, the head coach has come up short.

Early on in his Eagles tenure, Sirianni gave up play-calling duties to Shane Steichen. He attempted to have a hand in calling plays when the offense was stalling throughout the 2025 NFL season, but the Eagles simply never looked right.

Sirianni gets a ton of credit for his “CEO” coaching style. As a play-caller/offensive mind, not so much. Experience would’ve been a major plus for the Eagles’ new hire, but they get a fresh addition in the 33-year-old Mannion, who is earning a promotion with the offensive coordinator title in Philadelphia.

Nick Sirianni Drops a Statement

“I’m thrilled to have Sean Mannion on board as the new offensive coordinator for the Eagles,” Sirianni said in a statement, via McLane.

“My goal throughout this process was to operate with an open mind regarding the future of our offense to find the best fit for the Eagles. Over the last few weeks, I had an opportunity to meet with a number of talented candidates and great offensive minds. I am appreciative of the time I was able to spend with each of them. Some came with years of experience running an offense and calling plays. Others were young, sharp, and dynamic coaches on the rise. I felt it was important to be patient and thorough to allow the right fit to reveal himself to us. Sean did just that.”

Before Mannion’s NFL journey, he played college football at Oregon State. He entered the NFL as a third-round pick for the Rams in 2015. He spent time with the Rams until 2019, before making a move to the Minnesota Vikings. His playing career included 14 appearances over seven seasons.

In 2024, Mannion joined the Green Bay Packers as an offensive assistant. He was promoted to quarterbacks coach in 2025. He quickly moves up the ranks and lands a job with the Eagles, joining Jalen Hurts and a talented offense.
