Will Levis’ sad NFL reality becomes clear after Titans release

Will Levis is still waiting on his second chance.

The former Kentucky star, who at one point was being talked about as the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, was released by the Titans during roster cutdowns on Sunday and his prospects in the league appear to be on the thinnest of ice after he went unclaimed through waivers.

With no team adding him to the active roster as of Tuesday morning, Levis may have to settle for a practice squad gig as he looks to rebuild his value or risk falling out of the NFL entirely.

Levis, 27, has 21 touchdown passes and 16 interceptions in 21 total games played in 2023 and ’24. 

Levis has also lost 10 fumbles in those two years and fumbled the ball 17 total times in just 21 games from 2023 to 2024. 

Levis’ 10 fumbles in those two seasons (17 games played) were the second most in the NFL, behind only Lamar Jackson, who played in 33 games. 

Levis did not play in 2025 due to shoulder surgery,

New coach Robert Saleh had spoken glowingly of Levis, saying the Kentucky quarterback was “awesome,” though ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler had reported that Levis “wanted out” from the team.

Levis had repeatedly said, “There are not 32 quarterbacks in this league better than me.”

But it appears that NFL evaluators think there are at least 64, as no one yet even wants to bring him in as a backup.

The Titans drafted Cam Ward with the No. 1 overall pick last season, and he is slated to be backed up by Mitchell Trubisky. 

Levis has had a tough go in the NFL, including when is former head coach, and now Giants quarterbacks coach, Brian Callahan, unloaded on him during a game. 

Callahan infamously screamed from the sideline at Levis, saying, “What the f–k are you doing?” after Levis fumbled against the Jets in a remarkably boneheaded play.

Levis also threw a terrible pick-six the week prior in a season-opening loss to the Bears and was eventually benched from the starting role.

After having gone from unclaimed and still not added to an active roster, Levis’ NFL career appears seriously in jeopardy.
