If you watched Saturday's game between UCLA Bruins and Oregon Ducks, then you know how Dan Lanning's offense looked. It's been the same way all season, which is truly nonexistent.
The Ducks already have two losses on the season and are searching for answers. After the injury to quarterback Dante Moore, there were questions surrounding the quarterback room. Those questions remain unanswered. As for Dylan Raiola, he was benched because he was bad. He was 6-of-19 on his passes for 43 yards and two interceptions. He was pulled in the fourth quarter as the Ducks were down 17-6, and he was replaced by third-stringer Brock Thomas.
Raiola looked like a solution against USC after Moore got injured. He finished that game with 289 yards and two touchdowns while completing 19 of his 25 passes. When you go from that performance to throwing two interceptions and only completing 32% of your passes, it's a head scratcher. While Thomas fumbled on his first drive, he was 11-of-15 for 156 yards and one touchdown. He came up short on the two-point conversion that would have tied the game.
Oregon got the ball back with 44 seconds left in the game but could not get into field goal range before the time ran out. Even with Raiola on the bench, the offense gave the ball away again and had seven turnovers in the game.
With Moore out for an extended amount of time, the quarterback situation could get worse before it gets better. At 3-2, Oregon's playoff hopes after being in the semifinals last season are on life support. Can Raiola restore faith and make a comeback or is this all we're ever going to see of him in a Ducks' uniform? That's one of the biggest questions.
If Raiola is done for Lanning and Oregon, his time in Eugene will be truly underwhelming. This could be a bump in the road and Raiola might be able to redeem himself as the true five-star he was coming out of high school. Nobody knows but Lanning and his staff.
Raiola could also decide he's done after getting benched. However, this should be a wake-up call and force some motivation for the one-time top quarterback. The picture will become a bit clearer in the coming weeks.
Oregon faces Raiola's former team, the Nebraska Cornhuskers, on Saturday at 11 p.m. ET on FOX.
