Will Dolphins regret passing on other options for Kadyn Proctor

1 hour ago 3

The Miami Dolphins entered last week's draft with the No. 11 overall pick in the draft. Instead of using their original draft pick, they traded down with the Dallas Cowboys from that No. 11 overall to the 12th overall pick.

The Dolphins used that pick on Alabama offensive tackle, Kadyn Proctor. That draft pick was a bit of a head scratcher, especially considering who was left on the board.

Whether it will pay off remains to be seen, but now the question is whether Miami will regret it when they had a chance to take safety Caleb Downs or even Miami pass rusher Rueben Bain.

ESPN's Marcel Louis-Jacques begged the question in a recent column.

"Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan was targeting Proctor at pick No. 11 and got "free money" in the form of two fifth-round picks from the Cowboys to move down one spot. Sullivan spoke highly of Proctor's "rare" blend of size and skill, but Proctor's career will likely be compared to that of Downs and Bain, who were on the board when Proctor was taken.

"The Dolphins are confident they made the right decision, and if Proctor reaches his full potential, it'll be hard to argue against them."

Kadyn Proctor set to strengthen struggling Miami O-Line

As Luis-Jacques mentioned, Proctor will always be compared to Downs and Bain. Miami had a ton to address when it comes to its roster, and new general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan decided to take a player in the trenches.

Proctor is coming off an injury-riddled season in Tuscaloosa. he played through a torn labrum, but he still earned First-Team All-SEC honors and co-winning the Jacobs Blocking Trophy.

The Iowa native is a massive human being who stands at 6-foot-7 and weighs 352 pounds. Miami's offensive line last season was one of the worst units in the league, characterized by poor pass protection and inconsistency.

With Proctor on the line, that is expected to change.
