Wikelman Gonzalez is the latest addition to Will Venable's 2025 Chicago White Sox squad. Before the Friday night affair in Toronto, he was called up from Triple-A Charlotte. He took the spot of Cam Booser, who went out with a left shoulder strain. Also, Davis Martin has a right forearm strain, and southpaw Jake Palisch was called up.

Gonzalez made his debut in the 7–1 win in Toronto. He pitched the seventh and eighth innings and allowed just a single hit and a run, while walking two and striking out two. His seventh inning was sharp, with two lineouts and a strikeout. His trouble came in the eighth, where he walked the leadoff batter, got a pop-out, then allowed a Bo Bichette single and walked Addison Barger. He got out of the inning by getting Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to line out.

The 23-year-old was sharp with Charlotte before coming to the White Sox. He was 5–0 with a 2.75 earned run average. Opponents were hitting just .138 against him this season. In 12 appearances, Gonzalez had 18 strikeouts. He started the season in Birmingham but was called up to Charlotte on April 29.

The 6-foot hurler has been in the minor leagues since 2019. He was with the Red Sox as an international signing until 2024, when he came to Chicago in December as part of the Garrett Crochet trade. The Venezuela native has been a high-strikeout pitcher but has also struggled with control during his minor league career. He will wear No. 66 with the White Sox.

Following the weekend series in Toronto, the White Sox get to come back home. They will host Arizona for three games, before taking Wednesday off. The weekend, the White Sox will welcome the San Francisco Giants to town.
