The New York Yankees are preparing for a busy offseason.
Shortly after the World Series, 10 of New York's players from the 2026 roster will become free agents.
The list is headlined by second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. and closer David Bednar, but there are other interesting names of note.
With a logjam at first base after the trade deadline, Paul Goldschmidt's time with the Yankees may be over.
"The Yankees already have two first basemen on the roster: Ben Rice and Luis Garcia Jr., both of whom are left-handed hitters.
"Rice can hit both righties and lefties, while Garcia hasn't proven he can do that. In 2027, on days when the Yankees face a lefty, they could play Rice at first, with either Heliot Ramos or Aaron Judge at designated hitter," The Athletic's Chris Kirschner wrote.
Unfortunately, Goldschmidt only fits at first base or DH. He would expect to see minimal playing time unless an injury occurred.

Goldschmidt killed left-handed pitchers to the tune of a .299 batting average and .967 OPS, but struggled against righties.
Perhaps a reunion with the Arizona Diamondbacks would be fun for both sides.
Goldschmidt spent the first eight seasons of his career with the Snakes, and they could use a more reliable first base presence after bouncing around several different players at the corner infield spot in 2026.
