Tarik Skubal, a back-to-back Cy Young Award winner, will headline this year's Major League Baseball free-agent class.
Outside of the Los Angeles Dodgers ace, the 2027 free-agent class is rather underwhelming.
ESPN's Jeff Passan wrote Thursday that there aren't many players who stand out in a major way.
But maybe New York Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. could be one of them.
Chisholm, who recently landed on the IL with a sprained thumb, is probably the best second baseman on the market.
"Chisholm is different. He has the tools to be the class's best bat. He has 19 home runs and 40 stolen bases. But his OPS remains below average, and he is among the game's top dozen strikeout victims," Passan wrote.
"Even so, it's not out of the realm of possibility that Chisholm gets a bag, because he'll still be only 29 entering the 2027 season and in a class of such mediocrity, his potential is particularly tantalizing," Passan added.
Clubs in need of a second baseman may balk at Chisholm's asking price. But there aren't many other strong options.
Notable impending free agents at second base include Luis Arraez, Gleyber Torres, and Brandon Lowe.

The remaining unrestricted free agents (Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Gavin Lux, Adam Frazier) aren't considered everyday players.
While Chisholm hasn't had the year Yankees fans or he had envisioned, there's still a strong possibility he will land a sizeable contract.
Whether that's with the Yankees or another club is a topic for another day.
