Why Whitney Cummings Jokes Kelly Clarkson Is a “Home-Wrecker"

Kelly Clarkson’s Mini-Me Daughter River, 10, Steals the Spotlight on Her Talk Show

Whitney Cummings isn't losing her love for Kelly Clarkson.

In fact, the comedian joked that the American Idol alum is "wrecking a lot of marriages" with her recent cover of The Outfield's 1986 smash hit "Your Love," in which she sang while winking at the camera, "You know I like my girls a little older."

"Women are leaving their husbands," Whitney quipped during an April 2 appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, prompting the titular host to bat her eyes again. "She winks at the camera—like a home-wrecker!"

According to the 2 Broke Girls creator, Kelly's performance "blew up" on her TikTok feed.

"There's women that are like, 'I just got married, I don't know if this is for me,'" Whitney jokingly continued. "'Just watched Kellyoke and I think I'm gay.'"

And while Kelly—who stuck to the original pronouns in the song's lyrics—is flattered by all the buzz over her performance, she said her wink has been taken "way out of proportion."

"I've been doing the wink since my first video," explained Kelly, who started Kellyoke when her talk show premiered in 2019. "I've been playful with where I put the wink in, but for some reason, people caught it this time."

Still, the "Since U Been Gone" singer stands by her cheeky nod. As she put it, "If I was a lesbian, I would shoot for an older woman."

But doesn't mean Kelly is ready for another serious relationship after filing for divorce from Brandon Blackstock in 2020. In November, she revealed their kids River Rose, 10, and Remington "Remy" Alexander, 8, "don't want" to see her with someone else.

“They’re young," she explained to Los Angeles radio station KOST 103.5. "It’s hard to picture their mom with someone else other than their dad."

Besides, Kelly pointed out, "I’ve got a lot on my plate."

"I’m a magnet for people who are really all-in right off the bat," she shared, clarifying that she's not "the type to go and kiss a bunch of people."

Kelly added, "I’m very noncommittal at the moment."
