Why Wemby was ejected from Spurs-Timberwolves Game 4 after refs rule flagrant action on Victor Wembanyama

The NBA often seems to do whatever it can to leave its best players in games, almost no matter what.

That's not what happened with San Antonio Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama on Sunday against the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 4 of their Western Conference semifinal series.

Nope, Wemby got ejected. 

It was a bit of a shocker, and it changes the rest of Game 4 with the Spurs up 2-1 in the series.

Why did Wemby get ejected?

Wembanyama was given a flagrant 2 foul, which means an automatic ejection.

The referees reviewed an elbow from Wemby to Naz Reid's head and ruled that was the call.

It's a tough spot. Wemby appears to be anticipating contact from Reid, but that contact hadn't arrived yet.

Making matters worse, Wembanyama's elbows happen to be about the height off the ground as Reid's head, so when he swung, it was right to the face.

It doesn't seem intentional necessarily, although the timing and height of everything certainly makes it look worse.

Regardless, Wembanyama is out for the rest of Game 4.
