After losing the 2026 NBA Finals to the New York Knicks despite having one of the youngest teams in the NBA, the San Antonio Spurs entered the 2026 NBA Draft with an opportunity to continue getting better on both sides of the basketball.
Holding the 20th overall pick and multiple second-round picks, the Spurs were able to get creative, which is why they ended up taking Jayden Quaintance.
Jayden Quaintance NBA Draft
Quaintance, 18 years old out of the University of Kentucky, didn't exactly have a perfect year with the Wildcats, appearing in just four games due to a torn ACL he suffered in February 2025 while playing for Arizona State. He missed time this past season due to swelling in the knee.
Given how much of the young talent has developed over the past few years, it feels safe to say the organization is in a very good spot right now.
Adding him should only continue that trend for an organization that's done a lot of good in recent years.
I don't hate the idea of taking a consensus five-star pick who has been battling injuries, but it definitely poses some questions for an organization that the Spurs will have to consider.
