Why Tanner Scott isn't pitching for Dodgers in World Series after huge free agent signing

This season didn't go the way Tanner Scott and the Los Angeles Dodgers want it to go.

Scott was a high-profile bullpen signing, expected to anchor L.A.'s relief corps.

Instead, he struggled all year.

Now, the Dodgers have a starting pitcher (Roki Sasaki) closing in the postseason. They're in the World Series against the Toronto Blue Jays, and Scott isn't taking any part.

Why isn't Tanner Scott pitching?

Tanner Scott isn't even on the World Series roster for the Dodgers.

He underwent a lower body abscess procedure and was unable to get healthy in time for the Fall Classic.

He last pitched on Sept. 26 against the Mariners in the final week of the regular season.

Scott wasn't good enough this year, anyway.

He made 61 appearances and had a 4.74 ERA. Scott struck out 60 batters in 57 innings, but he allowed 11 home runs as part of his struggles.

If Scott had been available for the World Series, it's not clear if Dave Roberts could've trusted him to close, anyway. He may have just been a left-on-left matchup guy.

But instead, all Scott can do is watch and root and hope a healing offseason makes him better for 2026.
