How Sterling K. Brown's Kids Really Feel About Seeing Him on Billboards (Exclusive)
Sterling K. Brown wants his kids to make waves on social media.
After Dax Shepard—who shares daughters Lincoln, 12, and Delta, 11, with wife Kristen Bell—explained how he refrains from posting his kids on social media to allow them the chance to be “completely anonymous” compared to their famous parents, the This is Us star shared why he posts his kids for the very opposite reason.
"Your children are obviously White,” Sterling, 49, said during the Feb. 23 episode of the Armchair Expert podcast. “My children are Black. I feel like the more I put them on social, the safer they are.”
“Any proximity that Black boys can have to some sort of celebrity or access or whatnot,” he added, “I'm trying to make sure that they make it home."
Though Sterling—who shares sons Andrew, 14, and Amaré, 10, with wife Ryan Michelle Bathe—noted how sex is also taken into consideration when it comes to creating boundaries for their kids on social media, the Paradise star does have his limits when it comes to raising kids in the spotlight.
"If I am out with Ryan and the boys, we have a policy of no pictures,” he explained. “And the policy is because they deserve to have a regular night out. It's their time. And because Ry and I have a certain amount of spotlight or whatnot, doesn't mean that they should receive less of us."
But even though Sterling has made a name for himself in the acting world, at home he’s just dad.

“This is so crazy, they’re used to it,” Sterling told E! News in an interview published Feb. 20 regarding his family seeing him on billboards. “I’m not used to it, like it’s cool for me.”
“They just don't look at the picture. They'll stay in their phone,” he added. “They'll be like, 'Yeah, Dad, I've seen it.’ So, I'm like, ‘OK, thanks buddy,' as I turtle into my little shell.”
While the Waves actor revealed that his youngest son thinks he’s “slightly cool,” Andrew is harder to impress.
“The 14-year-old, he knows I'm cool,” Sterling said, “but will never admit it out loud and will never treat me that way.”
“He kind of understands it like, ‘That is an alright human being,’” Sterling laughed, “but he's always going to bring me down, and I appreciate that.”
