The Seattle Seahawks have made the NFC Conference Championship game and will face off against their division rival, the Los Angeles Rams.
Their previous two games this season were incredible, and now with a chance to play in the Super Bowl on the line, this week's matchup will be one of the best games of the year. But, this might be more than just a great game this year; it might be an all-time matchup.
NFL analyst Aaron Schatz pointed out how this DVOA matchup is the best of the last 47 years, and the season stats shared by ESPN's Field Yates both highlight just how great this game is shaping up to be.
Seahawks-Rams might be greatest NFL game in 47 years
"By DVOA, the NFC Championship Game is essentially the best NFL matchup of the last 47 years, and by a lot," Schatz writes. "This is only the seventh playoff game between two teams over 30% DVOA."
DVOA measures how good an offense, defense, and special teams are. The higher the number, the better. The Rams and Seahawks have two incredible numbers.
The Seahawks' DVOA this season is at 41.2%, while the Rams are at 39.9%. Those numbers combine offense, defense, and special teams.
Their combined DVOA is 81.1%, and the second-best game in the playoffs since 1978 is at 70.8%. This Seahawks-Rams matchup is one of the best ever by DVOA standards.

While the Seahawks have the slight advantage and home-field advantage, there are no guarantees with this matchup, as these two teams are about as evenly matched as two juggernauts can be.
Yates also shared how close their two games this season have been. They split the season-series, both winning at home. The Seahawks scored 57 points and gained 829 yards, while the Rams scored 58 points and gained 830 yards.
In their two matchups this season, there is only a one-yard and one-point difference between these two teams outcomes.
The Seahawks should have the slight edge thanks to this game being in Seattle, but by all accounts, this matchup might be one of the more even ones ever, let alone in a Conference Championship game with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line.
