Why Ravens traded up 21 picks with 49ers to take Matthew Hibner, a TE who had 2 catches in 4 seasons at Michigan

1 hour ago 3

The Baltimore Ravens had 21 picks until they were on the clock.

That was too long to wait. They wanted a new tight end, and they wanted Matthew Hibner, so they made a trade.

They sent the 154th pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick to the San Francisco to move up to the 133rd pick in Saturday's fourth round.

With that pick, they took Hibner out of SMU.

Why did the Ravens trade with 49ers to take Matthew Hibner?

They had a tight end opening, and they felt Hibner wouldn't make it down to pick 154.

The Ravens let Isaiah Likely and Charlie Kolar leave this offseason.

Mark Andrews is still around, and they added Durham Smythe.

Now, they have Hibner.

Matthew Hibner fun fact

Hibner played four seasons at Michigan and had just two catches, total.

He was mostly a special teams player for the Wolverines.

But when he transferred to SMU, he showed he can be an accomplished pass catcher, too.

And now he plays for the Ravens.
