Why Packers picked kicker Trey Smack in 2026 NFL Draft

1 hour ago 3

The Green Bay Packers used the final pick of the 2026 NFL Draft sixth round on a kicker.

It's the first kicker off the board this year: Trey Smack from Florida.

Green Bay may have seemed like Brandon McManus was going to be its kicker in the 2026 season.

Now, that seems unlikely.

Why did the Packers pick kicker Trey Smack?

The Packers clearly think they need an upgrade at kicker.

Smack has a great name and could be a star.

He made 10 kicks of 50 yards or more in his career at Florida, a school record, so clearly he's got a big leg.

Green Bay wouldn't have drafted Smack if he was going to get cut.

The #Packers signed K Brandon McManus last year to a 3-year, $15.3 million deal. No one is safe though in the NFL. Teams don't draft kickers in R6 to cut them.

Lucas Havrisik is technically under contract, too, but that likely won't remain the case.

Smack is ready to generate plenty of puns with the Packers.
