Why Packers changed back to kicker Brandon McManus from Lucas Havrisik

The Green Bay Packers will have a different kicker on Sunday Night Football in Week 8.

They're going back to the original, Brandon McManus, from Lucas Havrisik.

It was a question mark up until the inactive report, when McManus was ruled active after being questionable.

Why did the Packers go back to kicker Brandon McManus from Lucas Havrisik?

The Packers never wanted to go away from McManus.

But when McManus was injured, Green Bay had no choice.

They used Havrisik for two weeks while McManus missed games. In that time, he was 4-for-4 on field goals and 6-for-6 on extra points. Havrisik made a 61-yarder among those makes.

McManus entered the season as the Packers' starting kicker and he returns to that role after getting healthy in time for Week 8.

So far this season, McManus has played in four games. He has made 7-of-9 field goals and 10-of-11 extra points. That includes a long make of 56 yards.

The Packers could've stuck with Havrisik, who hadn't missed, but that would require doing something with McManus' starter-level contract. Instead, they've gone with the guy they planned to have kicking all along.
