The Denver Nuggets and Peyton Watson haven't yet reached a contract agreement for the 2026-27 NBA season, or potentially beyond.
He's a restricted free agent coming off the best season of his career, and things are moving slow.
That might be a bit by design for Denver.

Why hasn't Peyton Watson signed yet?
It sounds like Denver is considering the big picture of its roster.
The Denver Post's Bennett Durando reported this week that the Nuggets don't seem likely to run it back with the same roster as last season just to be in the second apron and have a huge luxury tax bill.
Watson and Spencer Jones are both RFAs. Watson will cost a lot more than Jones, to be sure, but they're both sort of in limbo at the moment.
Restricted free agency can also be pushed into action if a player gets an offer sheet from another team. If that happened for Watson or Jones, Denver would have to decide whether to match.
There's also the chance of a sign-and-trade with one or both of these players, as well.
The Nuggets haven't done much of anything this offseason, likely because that intimidating second apron is so close. They're probably considering big picture roster building questions, and Watson just finds himself at the center of it.
He seems likely to be an impactful player for years to come, but whether that's for the Nuggets or another team remains to be seen.
