In a recent Minecraft Mounts of Mayhem pre-release 1 version, the leaves' textures received a major change. Previously, the low-graphics leaves had shadow textures, while the new ones do not. Furthermore, the leaf textures have also changed, making them look a lot flatter than before.
An argument can be made that the new leaf textures are a massive let-down from before. However, there is also a small chance that this could be a bug.

New Minecraft Mounts of Mayhem pre-release has weird leaf textures
On November 19, 2025, Minecraft Mounts of Mayhem finally entered the pre-release phase as the developers released the first pre-release version. The pre-release phase means that Mojang has added every new feature for the game drop and is now focusing on fixing bugs before releasing the update officially.
In the first pre-release, they changed several features and fixed bugs. Along with that, the texture of the low-graphic leaves also changed, especially when their transparency setting is off.
Previously, no-transparency leaf textures were known as "Fast" leaf textures, since "Fast" meant "Low" in previous video settings. The low graphics leaf textures had no transparency, meaning players were not able to see through the leaves. The leaf texture had leaves with different shades of green and pitch-black lines of shadows. This gave leaves depth despite not being see-through.
In the latest pre-release, however, they removed the pitch-black shadow areas of the leaves and slightly changed their textures as well. Because there are no dark shadows, the low graphic leaf textures now look extremely flat and unimpressive.
There is a possibility that this new leaf texture might be a bug. This is because it was not mentioned in the pre-release 1 patch notes. If this is a bug and gets fixed by Mojang, it will be a massive sigh of relief since the current texture does not look good.
Other changes made in Minecraft Mounts of Mayhem pre-release 1
Apart from the mysterious leaf texture change, the pre-release introduced other changes that were mentioned in the patch notes.
The developers added a new graphical option called "Texture Filtering", which controls the sharpness of textures when viewed at an angle or from a distance. Previously, this setting was named Anisotropic Filtering. The available options under the new setting are: None, RGSS, and Anisotropic.
The developers also changed a few spear features, which is a new melee weapon coming to Minecraft Mounts of Mayhem. Golden spears will now be preferred by piglins, and the spear's charge attack keeps doing damage to mobs after its initial hit.
Spawn eggs are now categorized based on realms and the types of mobs in this pre-release. Lastly, the new advancement "Mob Kabob" has been removed from the challenge category.
