Why Mavericks turned a blind eye towards Dylan Harper ahead of NBA Draft?

The Dallas Mavericks hold the top overall pick in the upcoming NBA Draft. Without any doubt, Duke's Cooper Flagg will likely hear his name called up to join the franchise that traded off their icon, Luka Doncic, to the Los Angeles Lakers in favor of Anthony Davis this past season.

The Mavs, who won the NBA lottery to get the top pick, may have, in more ways, let it be known that they are not looking to trade off their first overall pick. And in doing so, they turned a blind eye towards Rutgers' Dylan Harper, who is considered a top-five pick.

This has led to questions being raised against the Mavs and whether they consider Harper a good talent. However, insider Brandon "Scoop B" Robinson set the record straight.

"Harper was never seriously considered for Dallas," Robinson said. "That's not a knock on him. The Mavericks were just laser-focused on Flagg, and they didn't want to send the wrong message by even entertaining another player at the top."

The upcoming NBA draft has been pretty straightforward. Even in the wildest dreams, the Mavericks are not expected to pull out a surprise and trade off or let go of Flagg. Similar is the case with the San Antonio Spurs, who hold the second pick and are the only team with whom Harper has participated in a workout.

"He (Harper) didn't need to do the full tour," Robinson added. "He's confident in his stock. He knows who's watching. Sometimes less is more."

Flagg and Harper are both projected to go first and second overall on Wednesday night.
