Why Karl-Anthony Towns' cameo in 'The Devil Wears Prada 2' is getting credit for Knicks' playoff win streak

There are many reasons why the New York Knicks are three wins away from an NBA championship, but an unexpected one is the release of The Devil Wears Prada 2.

The movie, a sequel to The Devil Wears Prada which was released two decades ago, was highly anticipated when it finally hit theaters in May. Its release has now run parallel to the Knicks' playoff winning streak, and some fans are crediting the movie for Karl-Anthony Towns' strong play.

If the Knicks can win the NBA Finals for their first title in 52 years, fans may be able to thank Anne Hathaway for the moment. Here's how The Devil Wears Prada 2, Karl-Anthony Towns and Anne Hathaway all may have ignited this winning streak.

Karl-Anthony Towns in 'The Devil Wears Prada 2' scene

Towns made a brief cameo in the movie The Devil Wears Prada 2, which was released to theaters on Friday, May 1. Coincidentally, That was also a day after the Knicks secured a first-round victory over the Atlanta Hawks in six games.

Since The Devil Wears Prada 2 first hit theaters, the Knicks haven't lost a game. New York swept both the Philadelphia 76ers in the second round and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals, marking eight-straight wins to make the NBA Finals. Then, the Knicks' won Game 1 of the NBA Finals against the San Antonio Spurs to extend the winning streak to nine games.

This was also around the same time that OG Anunoby had a cameo in the show "Your Friends and Neighbors" as both Knicks players played themselves.

Is Anne Hathaway a Knicks fan?

The reason why Towns appeared in The Devil Wears Prada 2 is probably because Anna Hathaway is a big Knicks fan.

"I'm very chill, I'm very loving and calm, but I'm also the type of fan that considered wearing an OG jersey out here today," Hathaway said during a Tonight Show appearance.

In fact, in November of 2024, Hathaway was sitting courtside at Madison Square Garden when OG Anunoby flew into the stands, spilling food all over Hathaway's row.

Anunoby actually went on a hot streak after this moment, making Hathaway a potential good luck charm for the team.

Knicks playoff winning streak

The Knicks have won 12-straight games in the playoffs dating back to Game 4 of the first round vs. the Hawks. New York won three-straight games before The Devil Wears Prada was released, and have added nine more victories since.
