It didn't take long for the blockbuster to develop.
The Cleveland Browns are trading Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams, in a deal that it felt like only began to be rumored hours earlier. But the kicker is this: The Browns aren't just getting draft picks. They're getting Jared Verse.
And getting Verse in return for Garrett changes everything.
Getting Verse in return for Garrett might just make the Browns the winners of this deal.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that it'll be Verse, a 2027 first-round pick and more to the Browns for Garrett.

Verse could become the next Garrett in Cleveland.

Who is Jared Verse?
Verse is a 25-year old pass rusher originally from Dayton, Ohio.
He attended high school in Pennsylvania, then wasn't highly recruited, so he went to Albany (NY) at the FCS level. He parlayed strong play there into a transfer to Florida State, and the Rams made him the No. 19 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Verse has played all 34 possible regular season games in his first two seasons, recording 12.0 sacks and making two Pro Bowls.

Why this might be a win for the Browns
Verse isn't Garrett, no, but he fits the Browns' timeline much better, and he could develop into one of the league's top edge rushers.
He's also still on his rookie contract, so in the short-term while the Browns aren't great, he's not super expensive.
Soon enough, Verse will get an extension, and if Cleveland can line up finding a QB in time, he can be the defense's new fearsome pass rusher in place of Garrett.
Adding multiple draft picks with Verse gives the Browns a chance to put a great team together.
Garrett is still a superstar, yes, but it didn't do the Browns any good to have him while being a losing team. This deal gives them the best chance to turn things around.
