Why former TV boss was power walking in Central Park on sweltering day in dress shirt and suit pants

On a recent, unseasonably warm day in NYC, Central Park joggers ran past a lithe wild-haired guy with shades, in a dress shirt and suit pants walking in the opposite flow of foot traffic.

Media savvy runners might’ve noted that the discordantly dressed sun-soaked boulevardier was Andrew Lack — the former NBC News and MSNBC chairman whose bumpy reign at the network began in the wake of the “lyin'” Brian Williams scandal and encompassed Matt Lauer‘s ouster and the train-wreck tenure of Megyn Kelly at “Today.” (Prior to joining the network, Lack was the CEO of Bloomberg Media Group after serving as CEO of Sony Music and a past president of NBC News.)

So what was Lack doing moseying around the park?

“He was heading from the UES to a biz meeting in Midtown,” a pal told us when we asked around. Turns out Lack, 79, doesn’t lack for steps: He averages 14,000 per weekday and 20,000 on weekend days.  (Alex Rodriguez once told us in 2024 he stays in shape with 45-minute walks after dinner every night, among other regimens.)

But A-Lack had A-Rod beat. “He’s been doing this since well before NBC,” said a media insider. “When other moguls were traveling in black cars, he always walked if possible.”

Indeed — as the season turns autumnal, Lack was spotted just this very morning strolling along in a traditional trench coat.

These days Lack is executive chair of Deep South Today, a network of nonprofit newsrooms in Louisiana and Mississippi, and he’s committed $7 million recently to support nonprofit journalism this year, adding to $5 million he’s given over the past 10 years.

Back in 1976, Lack was hired by legendary “60 Minutes” creator Don Hewitt as a producer. He recently said on MS Now of the recent Bari Weiss drama at the iconic CBS News show: “It’s sad, I’m stunned… I never imagined they could get into a corner like this.”
