Why Dodgers might not make a blockbuster trade deadline move

The Los Angeles Dodgers are sitting atop the NL West, and once again, appear to be the clear World Series favorites in all of baseball.

With the MLB trade deadline one month away, it's fair to wonder what this team could look to add this summer. Could they add Tarik Skubal in a blockbuster move? It seems to be a possibility.

However, MLB.com's Mark Feinsand revealed why the Dodgers might not make such a blockbuster move this summer, and it's thanks to the looming returns of four injured stars to an already stacked roster.

Why Dodgers might not swing a blockbuster trade this year

"The Dodgers will be getting a number of players back from the injured list in the coming weeks, including Will Smith, Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow, and Edwin Diaz, so reinforcements are on the way," Feinsand writes.

While Feinsand does note the Dodgers could still inquire about Skubal, the best player who might be available this summer in the trade market, he does also mention how the Dodgers stacked roster might not need any help.

"... But the need for a big, splashy move simply may not exist. This roster is stacked and in prime position to make a run at a three-peat," Feinsand writes.

The Dodgers are 57-31 one month from the August 3 trade deadline. Looking over the roster, it's hard to find any real issue that would require a blockbuster deal.

Once Smith comes back, the Dodgers' lineup will be one of the best, if not the best, in all of baseball. The starting rotation is already elite, and that's not even including Snell and Glasnow.

Tanner Scott has dramatically improved from last year with a 2.08 ERA this season, and with plenty of other solid relievers, along with Diaz's expected return, there's little worry about the bullpen either.

Sure, could the Dodgers pursue Skubal or some other big-name player at the deadline? Absolutely. But this team doesn't need to make such a move, as they're already elite as they are.
