Why Daniel Jones is called 'Danny Dimes' nickname

Daniel Jones' nickname works better now than it ever has before.

Danny Dimes has the Indianapolis Colts off to a 7-1 start to the season entering a key Week 9 clash on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He's had the moniker essentially since entering the NFL with the New York Giants. And even as he's traversed away from the team that drafted him, the nickname has stuck around.

Some in Indy have taken to calling him Indiana Jones this season, which is cool.

But Danny Dimes isn't going anywhere, either.

Why is Daniel Jones called Danny Dimes nickname?

Solid preseason play from Jones in 2019 prompted the organic growth of Jones' most well-known nickname, "Danny Dimes," ahead of his rookie NFL season.

For the uninitiated, "throwing a dime" means to throw a perfect pass.

"It's all right, I guess," Jones told reporters in 2019. "There could be worse nicknames."

Sadly, "Danny Dimes" doesn't have a crazy origin story. It truly was just a social media birthing that grew into an easy-on-the-tongue way to refer to Jones.

It has solid alliteration, along with the 'y' ending that somehow makes athlete names pop more.

When compared with Jones' nicknames earlier in his life, "Danny Dimes" is winning. In high school at Charlotte Latin in North Carolina, Jones was known as "Swag." Then at Duke, they called him "The Future."

Jones might be best off sticking with Danny Dimes over those nicknames.
