Why Cowboys fans should root for Brendan Sorsby in Philadelphia

Dallas Cowboys fans don't usually find themselves cheering for anything happening to the Philadelphia Eagles, but Brendan Sorsby's situation is different. This isn't about rooting for the Eagles. It's about rooting for chaos inside the NFC East rival's locker room, at the most inconvenient time possible.

The noise surrounding Jalen Hurts’ long-term future in Philadelphia is growing louder. Reports indicate General Manager Howie Roseman and the Eagles are prepared to move on from Hurts if the 27-year-old underperforms under first-year offensive coordinator Sean Mannion.

This follows a January report describing the Texas native as a source of internal frustration within the organization and it worsened on June 1st when wide receiver A.J. Brown was traded to the New England Patriots. Following the trade, Brown admitted he leaked information to local media during his locker room fallout with Hurts. So, he is an unpopular guy in the Eagles' locker room.

This turbulence makes the timing of Brendan Sorsby’s NFL entry notable. The 6-foot-3 quarterback recently transferred to Texas Tech but was ruled permanently ineligible by the NCAA following a sports wagering investigation into his time at Cincinnati. Sorsby is now expected to apply for the NFL Supplemental Draft before the June 22 deadline.

His production at Cincinnati Bearcats was impressive last year, posting 2,800 passing yards, 27 touchdowns and five interceptions. He possesses the traits of a legitimate NFL starter.

And according to NFL insider Jason La Canfora, Philly is seriously considering the move. "I think Howie grabs him in the second round," one rival general manager told La Canfora, per sportdfw. "He's getting a one for Brown. I don't think he's scared to do it, and the stuff you hear about them being willing to move off of Hurts — that's real."

For Dallas Nation, this is the dream scenario. Hurts has gone 5-4 against the Cowboys since entering the league. Drafting Sorsby would create an immediate quarterback controversy. Adding an available, problematic quarterback to an Eagles team already facing locker room tension, a coaching change, and the loss of A.J. Brown is exactly the self-inflicted disruption Dallas needs.

Sorsby’s betting history is a big risk, no doubt, but it also lowers his draft price. That aligns with Roseman’s history of taking calculated gambles on talented players with red flags.

Furthermore, if Hurts knows the front office is looking for his replacement, the distraction could impact his performance. For the Cowboys, an Eagles team that defeats itself is a major offseason win that requires no effort from Dallas.
