Why Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker's stats might be a problem for Kansas City in 2025

Harrison Butker has made some of the most important kicks in Kansas City Chiefs history.

This season, though, Butker doesn't quite seem like his peak self.

Heading into Monday Night Football in Week 8, there isn't any kind of a job controversy. But Butker is just a tad worse than he has been before.

It's at least something worth noting as Kansas City tries to work its way back to the Super Bowl and avenge its defeat from last season. They'll need their kicker at his best to do that.

Why Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker's stats might be a problem

Butker has begun this season a bit off the pace from his last few seasons.

He has made 12-for-15 field goals so far. His 80% is the second-worst mark of his career, only better than an odd 2022 season in which he went 18-for-24 (75%) while missing time with injury.

Extra points have been just as concerning. Butker is 18-for-21 on those, 85.7%, which would be by far the worst of his career.

Butker's field goals can be mostly explained as two misses from 50-plus and another in the 40-49 range.

The extra points, though, show that something might just be off in general here.

Butker has been the Chiefs' starting kicker since his rookie since in 2017 and played in 127 regular season games through 2025 Week 7.

At 30 years old, Butker likely has plenty more NFL kicking left in him.

But right now, he's got to find a way to right the ship just a little bit.
