Why Browns traded Myles Garrett to Rams in blockbuster trade

There had been a lot of buzz building up recently about a potential Cleveland Browns trade of Myles Garrett. The Los Angeles Rams seemed to be the favorite.

And on Monday, June 1, the Browns and the Rams, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, agreed to a massive blockbuster trade that sends Garrett to the Rams in exchange for a huge return that includes Jared Verse and multiple draft picks.

So, why did the Browns pull off such a stunning blockbuster trade? The reason is quite clear: This was the peak of Garrett's value, and there wasn't a better time to do this trade.

Why Browns traded Myles Garrett to Rams

"Bombshell: The Browns are finalizing a trade that will send two-time Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams, per @rapsheet, @TomPelissero and me," Schefter reports. "In exchange for Garrett, the Rams are expected to send Pro Bowl edge Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick, and other draft-pick compensation still being negotiated to the Browns."

This is a blockbuster among all blockbusters for the Browns and the Rams. While Cleveland is losing Garrett, who is the best defensive player in the NFL right now, the return they're getting is massive.

Verse is an incredible edge rusher and is coming off just his second season in the NFL. He is a two-time Pro Bowler, Defensive Rookie of the Year, and has 12 sacks across the last two seasons while showing some incredible potential.

He's only 25 years old and is under team control on his rookie deal through the 2028 season. The Browns are getting a young edge rusher who's ascending into stardom for a few years on a cheap rookie deal.

Cleveland is also receiving a 2027 first-round pick, giving them multiple selections in the first round of a stacked draft class when they're likely to find their quarterback of the future.

This is such an incredible return, and it's likely only going to get better from here once the terms are finalized. The Browns traded Garrett at the perfect time, coming off his record-breaking 23-sack season.

While it stings to see him go, this was the best time for the Browns to trade Garrett. This massive return made it hard to refuse, as the Browns are getting a superstar in the making in Verse, along with a ton of draft pick compensation.
