Why Brashard Smith is stealing Chiefs RB playing time from Isiah Pacheco, Kareem Hunt

The Kansas City Chiefs clearly like what they have in Brashard Smith.

The seventh-round rookie running back out of SMU has seized a solid role already in the Kansas City backfield, and it doesn't seem like that'll be going away.

Some of his work has come at the expense of Isiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt, but as the Chiefs try to figure out their optimal offense, it's clear Smith is meant to play a part.

Why is Brashard Smith playing over Isiah Pacheco, Kareem Hunt?

The Chiefs have made it clear they love throwing the ball to Smith.

Pacheco and Hunt have both had times in their careers as solid pass catchers, too, but right now, that's Smith's job for K.C.

The 22-year old had three catches for 27 yards in Week 4 as the Chiefs smashed the Ravens. He also had a career-high four carries in that game, although for just nine yards.

“It felt great just being in there, and we got that win also," Smith told reporters this week. "So, I was hyped up, for sure. I was really happy.”

For now, the backfield might continue to be crowded.

But it doesn't seem like Smith is going anywhere. And on his cheap rookie contract, it's safe to expect Smith to stick around for a while.

And for those wondering: Smith ran a 4.39-second 40-yard dash in the pre-draft process.

The Chiefs certainly have shown they know how to use players who can fly, and Smith is the latest example of that to step into their building.
