Why Astros fired general manager Dana Brown

The Houston Astros have made a significant change in their front office. 

According to a club announcement, the Astros and general manager Dana Brown have mutually agreed to part ways. 

Brown's contract as Houston's GM was set to expire after the 2026 season. 

"Astros owner and chairman Jim Crane will oversee baseball operations through the transition period as the team continues to focus on the American League West division race," the Astros said in a statement. "Bown has served as the Astros GM since January 26, 2023." 

Crane also released a statement on Brown's tenure with the Astros. 

“Over the past four seasons, Dana has helped our organization win two division titles and has led our baseball front office through key scouting, draft, and development efforts,” Crane said in a statement within today’s release. “On behalf of the Astros, I want to thank him for his commitment, energy, and contributions to our organization. We wish he and his family the best.”

Under Brown, the Astros won two division titles but fell short of expectations. 

Despite being tied with the Texas Rangers for first place in the AL West, the Astros have had a disappointing season.

They are 65-66 and blew a six-run lead to the Athletics on Sunday. Who knows where they'd be without Yordan Alvarez? 

It's semi-surprising that the Astros decided to make this change during the season, as Brown's contract would've expired at the conclusion of the season.
