Whoopi Goldberg Claps Back At Obama’s Claim That Democrats Need To Stop “Whining”: “You Are Pointing The Finger At The Wrong Person”

Whoopi Goldberg took aim at former President Barack Obama in a rare moment on The View after he doled out some candid advice to the Democrats regarding their messaging during Donald Trump‘s second term.

Goldberg shared some of the remarks Obama reportedly made during a recent public appearance where he said, “Democrats need to speak out more forcefully against [Trump] and they should stop looking for a messiah. It’s going to require less navel-gazing and a little less whining.”

Goldberg delivered an impassioned rant defending Democratic voters against Obama’s words, noting that he should be “pointing the finger” at elected officials instead.

“Let me remind everybody who was out on the frontlines marching when we had the giant marches that went on, it was the people. The people went out. They were not navel-gazing,” she said in a moment that can be watched at the top of this page.

She continued, “It was older people who were saying, ‘Why are you touching my social security?’ It was not people whining. It was about people saying, ‘Why are you taking these rights from my child when my child was born here?'”

Goldberg maintained that the messaging for Democratic voters “was always the same.”

“The same Democrats have been angry at what [Trump] tried to do last time. They’ve been angry this time so I, with much due respect to you both, I believe you are pointing the finger at the wrong person when you say Democrats,” she said.

Ana Navarro agreed with Goldberg’s point. Navarro recently attended the No Kings march in Miami in protest of Trump’s controversial crackdown on immigration. “I saw all sorts of people gathering together and protesting, despite the fact we are living in a country where there is retribution… There is a lot of fear,” she said.

While she agrees with some of what Obama said, Navarro said participating in the protest showed her the voters are taking action now.

“I do think there are things that are working. I agree with Obama, people can’t wait for a messiah. And people aren’t waiting for a messiah. People are taking it on their own,” she said.

The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
