Rece Davis is closely watching the ACC. The College GameDay host believes that there's a solution to the uncertainty surrounding the conference heading into the college football playoffs.
While speaking on Monday’s College GameDay podcast, Davis said,
"Pittsburgh against Notre Dame. I think that’s a huge game. It means nothing for Pittsburgh’s chance to get into the playoffs. They have to win the ACC. But what the importance is for the conference is that the conference desperately needs a win like that to elevate whoever emerges from this mess."•

The "mess" that Davis is referring to is the ACC's performance in Week 11 and the uncertainty surrounding the playoff picture. Both No. 14 Virginia and No. 15 Louisville lost in the just-concluded game week.
Furthermore, No. 17 Georgia Tech was idle after its first defeat of the season at the hands of NC State. There's a good chance that no ACC team finishes in the top ten of the AP Poll.
ACC looking unlikely to end SEC and Big Ten national championship duopoly
The SEC and Big Ten have dominated the college football landscape over the past few years. The last time an ACC side won the national championship was in 2018, when the Clemson Tigers did so. Since then, the SEC and Big Ten have kept the national championship between their conferences.
Here's a look at the past ten winners of the national championship:
- 2024: Ohio State Buckeyes (Big Ten)
- 2023: Michigan Wolverines (Big Ten)
- 2022: Georgia Bulldogs (SEC)
- 2021: Georgia Bulldogs (SEC)
- 2020: Alabama Crimson Tide (SEC)
- 2019: LSU Tigers (SEC)
- 2018: Clemson Tigers (ACC)
- 2017: Alabama Crimson Tide (SEC)
- 2016: Clemson Tigers (ACC)
- 2015: Alabama Crimson Tide (SEC)
SEC teams have won the national championship in six out of the past ten seasons, the Big Ten has won twice (the most recent two titles), and the ACC has two wins. It's been seven years since an ACC side went all the way and tasted collegiate football glory.
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are currently first in the ACC. They have a game against the Boston College Eagles up next. They'll look to post a victory and give themselves a solid chance of competing for college football's most significant honor.
