After a stirring NFL debut, J.J. McCarthy is ready for what should be a raucous home opener, as the Vikings face the Falcons on "Sunday Night Football."
McCarthy, the No. 10 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, made his professional debut on Monday after missing all of last season with a torn meniscus. He engineered a stunning fourth-quarter comeback, rallying the Vikings out of an 11-point hole with three touchdowns in the game's final frame to down the Bears.
The Falcons selected Michael Penix Jr. two picks ahead of McCarthy in last year's draft, taking the Washington product eighth overall. After overtaking veteran Kirk Cousins late last season, Penix entered 2025 as the starter and promptly threw for 298 yards and a touchdown in a Week 1 loss to the Buccaneers.
