Who Plays Carolyn Bessette’s Mother on ‘Love Story’? Meet Scene Stealer Constance Zimmer

Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr & Carolyn Bessette not only offers an inside look at one of the most popular couples of the 21st century by diving into John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette’s whirlwind romance, but it also peels back the curtain on the Kennedy family. Yet viewers cannot deny one of the series’ most enthralling performances comes from the Bessette family, namely Carolyn’s mother, Anne Marie.

Anne Marie makes her first appearance on the show in the latest episode, titled “I Love You,” when Carolyn joins her and Lauren for dinner. Who plays this wise matriarch? None other than television titan Constance Zimmer, an actress who has starred in countless series over the years.

In the episode, Carolyn and her mother have a tense exchange after her sister reveals Carolyn is still seeing John. Anne Marie offers her some sage advise and warns her against throwing her career away for a man.

Who is Constance Zimmer?

Zimmer shared photos from the set on social media to announce her surprise appearance on the show.

“SURPRISE! Tonight #episode4 you will meet my character Ann Marie Messina, the mother of Carolyn Bessette,” she wrote. “This role was such a gift for so many reasons and I can’t wait for you to continue to follow along on the journey.”

After thanking the crew, she added, “Thank you all for watching and loving this story, we all worked very hard on it.”

Some may recognize Zimmer from her most notable role playing Dana Gordon on the hit HBO series Entourage, a role she later reprised when the series was rebooted in 2015.

Zimmer also starred as a toxic reality television producer in the short-lived series UnREAL, followed by a stint on the Freeform series Good Trouble.

Love Story marks Zimmer’s most recent television role, the latest in a decades-long career in television across genres. She also recently starred in The Lincoln Lawyer, Fire Country, Krapopolis and Harlan Coben’s Shelter.
