Who is the Panthers' backup QB? How Carolina could replace Bryce Young

2 hours ago 4

It's year three of the Bryce Young experiment in Carolina and there's been mixed results.

The former number one overall pick struggled in week one, throwing for 154 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. So if he faulters this again could we see him get put on the sidelines?

Let's take a look at who Dave Canales has backing up the third-year quarterback.

Who is the Panthers' backup QB?

37-year-old Andy Dalton serves as the contingency plan for Carolina. Otherwise known as the "Red Rifle," Dalton is in his third year with the Panthers.

The 11-year veteran has seen stints with the Bengals, Saints, Bears, Cowboys, and now Panthers.

He has 989 yards, seven touchdowns, and six interceptions in his last five starts. He and Young both had stints leading the offense last season with neither leading Carolina to success.

The Panthers have a strong investment in Young which means he will be given more opportunities than Dalton. But new head coach Dave Canales has proven he's willing to start the veteran if Young underperforms.

It's safe to say Dalton will be staying warm on the sidelines this season.
