Caitlin Clark is known for firing off a snappy retort or two at refs, but what transpired during the third quarter of the Fever's game against the Sun Tuesday night was a bit more than that. Clark and longtime WNBA ref Michael Price were caught on video snapping at one another, with things appearing to escalate rapidly.

The moment in question happened while Price was facing away from the camera, so it's not clear what he was saying to Clark when her expression changed from casual to incensed, and a coach had to to grab her arm to stop her from pursuing Price down court.
Whatever was or wasn't said, Clark never picked up a technical foul — which, for some, indicates Price might have said something he shouldn't have.
Plenty of people are curious about Price after seeing the back and forth live on TV. Here's what we know about the ref Caitlin Clark argued with.
He's known by Mercury fans
Price has been a ref in the league for several years, and there are plenty of fan conversations on old WNBA-related forums in which Mercury supporters insist he has a grudge against the team — and especially against Diana Taurasi, who retired ahead of the beginning of this season.
He's been officiating in the WNBA for several years
It's not immediately clear how long Price has been reffing in the league, but Swish Appeal referenced Price back in 2013 — and funnily enough, it was in connection with a technical foul levied against Taurasi.
Another database has records of Price officiating back in 2010.
He hits coaches with techs, too
In 2012 Price was the ref who issued both Lindsay Whalen and Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve with technical fouls during Game 2 of the WNBA Finals.
