Aubrey Plaza’s partner, Christopher Abbott, is in the spotlight following the news that he and the pregnant “Parks and Recreation” alum are expecting a baby together.
The 40-year-old actor has starred in a handful of successful movies and TV shows since starting Off-Broadway in 2008, followed by Hollywood three years later.
However, Abbott is not nearly as well-known as Plaza despite maintaining a successful acting career for nearly 20 years.
Here is everything to know about Christopher Abbott amid his and Aubrey Plaza’s pregnancy news.
He was born in Connecticut
Born Christopher Jacob Abbott in Greenwich, Connecticut, in February 1986, the actor has Italian roots on his mother’s side and Caribbean roots on his father’s.
He grew up in Stamford and attended Norwalk Community College after graduating from high school.
Abbott ultimately left Norwalk Community College and moved to New York City to study acting at the HB Studio in 2006.
He started Off-Broadway before transitioning to TV and film
Abbott’s acting career began Off-Broadway with “Good Boys and True” and “Mouth to Mouth” in 2008, followed by “That Face” in 2010.
He also appeared in an episode of the comedy series “Nurse Jackie” during Season 1 in 2009, as well as an episode of “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” during Season 9 in 2010.

The actor’s feature film debut came in the thriller “Martha Marcy May Marlene” in 2011, which was the same year he made his Broadway debut in “The House of Blue Leaves” with Ben Stiller.
His breakout role came in “Girls” in 2012
Despite acting on and off-screen for five years, Abbott’s breakout role didn’t come until 2012 when he was cast as Charlie in Leah Dunham’s hit HBO show “Girls.”
Abbott played Allison Williams’ character’s boyfriend, although he left the series after Season 2 in 2013.
“The world that Lena wrote was very real, especially in New York,” Abbott told the New York Times in 2013 regarding his decision to leave the show. “But it wasn’t as relatable for me on a personal level.”
He continued, “It’s not that I only like to play roles I know to a T, but there’s something satisfying about playing parts where you really relate to the characters.”
However, Abbott returned to “Girls” for the highly acclaimed episode “The Panic in Central Park” in 2016.
He began working with Plaza in 2020
After leaving “Girls,” Abbott starred in a handful of films, including “A Most Violent Year” (2014), “It Comes At Night” (2017), “Kraven the Hunter” (2024) and “The Testament of Ann Lee” (2025).
He returned to TV in 2023 for the Apple TV+ series “The Crowded Room” with Tom Holland and Amanda Seyfried.
But Abbott also began working with Plaza after departing “Girls.”
The pair reportedly met while filming the 2020 psychological drama “Black Bear” before reuniting for the Off-Broadway play “Danny and the Deep Blue Sea,” which ran from October 2023 to January 2024.
“He cares, but he also doesn’t care; it’s the best recipe for me for a scene partner,” Plaza said of Abbott during an interview with the New York Times for “Danny and the Deep Blue Sea” in September 2023.
She added, “It’s fun, and it’s also good, and it’s also safe. I like to just throw things out the window, also laugh and mess around, and not take it so seriously. It’s a hard combo to come by.”
As for Abbott, he told the outlet that he and Plaza were “both unafraid to be ugly and weird and strange.”
He and Plaza were first romantically linked in July 2025
Abbott and the “Honey, Don’t!” star were first rumored to be together after a fan claimed they saw the pair getting cozy at a berry farm outside New York City in July 2025.
The romance speculation continued in November 2025 when photos of the two enjoying a Knicks game together appeared on social media.
Then, this past February, Abbott and Plaza were photographed together during Paris Fashion Week.
He and Plaza are expecting a baby together
People reported in April 2026 that Abbott and Plaza were expecting a baby together.
“It was a beautiful surprise after an emotional year,” an insider told the outlet. “They feel very blessed.”
The pregnancy news came months after Plaza mourned the death of her late husband, Jeff Baena, who died by suicide in January 2025.
The “White Lotus” alum and Baena married in 2021, but separated four months before the director’s death.
